Aberdeen Asia Focus is an investment trust specialising in smaller listed companies across Asia excluding Japan. It uses a concentrated, research-led portfolio to seek long-term capital growth from businesses benefiting from the region's economic development and structural change.
Invests mainly in Asian smaller companies, selecting individual businesses through fundamental research rather than closely tracking an index. Holdings span consumer, industrial, technology, financial and other growth areas.
Asian equity markets excluding Japan, with exposure across countries such as India, China, Taiwan, South Korea and South-East Asia, depending on where the managers find attractive smaller-company opportunities.
Asian economic growth, domestic consumption, digitalisation, supply-chain shifts, company earnings, stock selection, local market valuations, currency movements and the trust's discount or premium to net asset value.
Smaller-company volatility and liquidity, emerging-market political and regulatory risk, currency movements, market concentration, gearing, weaker stock selection and a widening discount to net asset value.
31 March 2026: half-year results reported an 11.4% NAV total return and 13.0% share-price total return over six months, both ahead of the 9.0% benchmark return, while the discount narrowed to 8.9%.
Pays quarterly, with income secondary to long-term capital growth. For the 2026 financial year, 1.6p dividends went ex-dividend on 19 February and 21 May 2026; the Board has targeted at least 6.43p for the full financial year.
